As it reads in the title, I tested the sample piece to see how well it protects against edged attacks. I used the Vietnam Tomahawk and Gladius Machete, both by Cold Steel. As a backing, I used four layers of canvas, the minimum of my gambeson. As expected, no slashes or the broad end of the tomahawk broke the mail. Stabs bent some rings but didn't break any links. The spike of the tomahawk did pierce the sample. It did break through the canvas, but only 2 mm penetrated, so not enough to make a wearer fatally bleed. For 15 minutes, I tried to make the sample fail, but it survived pretty well. I was able to eventually break links after several downward strikes. I'm a believer in this product. Especially after feeling how light this was.
